Most of our participants come from all over the United States, but we also get international visitors. Our UL Lafayette Road Scholar program has about 250 participants per year. Rick Steves tours tend to have more free time and fewer included meals. The group starts in New Orleans and travels to Baton Rouge and Lafayette on a 9 night, 10 day program. We've taken 21 Rick Steves tours and 5 with Road Scholar, although neither of the tours you're asking about. Our most frequently run program is called, “The Cajun Experience in Music, Food & Dance.” Other current programs include, 'Celebrating Mardi Gras in Cajun Country,' and 'The Best of Louisiana.' The Best of Louisiana is run in partnership with the Center for New Orleans Studies Road Scholar program. There is no longer a minimum age requirement, but most participants are over 50. Field trips are direct approaches to enhancing academic background that increase the variety and depth of out-of-class experiences. While Elderhostel is still a part of the corporate name, Road Scholar is the name used for the programs. At that time, the organization was called Elderhostel. UL Lafayette has been a Road Scholar service provider since 1988. With a reduced capacity of just 300 passengers, Road Scholar’s small ship, the Aegean Odyssey, has become a popular option for those ready to dip their toes back into an adventure at sea next year. Road Scholar’s average guest age is 72, but participants at our guided tours for senior citizens range in age from their 50s to 90s.
